The Older Peoples Advocacy Alliance (OPAAL) believes that there are specific circumstances where all individuals must have a right to the support of an independent advocate to ensure that their own interests and preferences are acknowledged and addressed. Although OPAAL does not provide advocacy services itself, their website can be used to help you locate an appropriate service near to where you live.
The Red Cross offers a variety of practical, local and emotional support across the UK and internationally. This includes help with loneliness, cost of living or returning home after a hospital stay. The Red Cross also hire out wheelchairs or other practical equipment.
TeleCareline is a 24 hour service that provides and monitors a range of equipment and sensors. These can be worn, or put in a person’s home to help them remain independent. When alarms go off, support is provided, which can be from a neighbour or friend, a service organised by TeleCareline or the emergency services.
